Personally, I wouldn't just leave my bike to accumulate wear and tear over time without doing anything to keep it in shape. It's like not taking your car for mechanical maintenance when it's due. You're just putting yourself at risk. Even with the so called over-maintenance, the bike will definitely age and wear out with time.

A bike is way easier and way less expensive to keep updated, so you might as well keep it fixed and in tip-top shape as long as you can.

A bike can last you a lifetime. A car only lasts so long.

Exactly! Unliike a car, with a bike, the owner doesn't really need to take the bike to anyone who's going to do the maintenance work. It can all be carried out by the biker.
