When I was a kid, you could bike to school, and we did.

Nowadays, many schools prohibit biking to school for "safety" concerns, but is it really impacting their safety to do so?

I feel like kids have a better chance of becoming obese and having health problems simply by getting this advantage taken away from them. Cities and towns can create safe infrastructure that allows kids to bike to school. They owe it to the kids to help keep them healthy.

What do you all think about this?

I've always been an advocate of safety first over anything else which is why I'm kind of in support of stopping this because I've seen a lot of kids being involved in accidents with careless drivers over the years who speed in school zone. If there are more protected bike lanes for kids to use when going to school, I'll buy the idea of allowing bikes.

Kids die more in cars than on bikes!

I think that's food for thought.

They can create Low Traffic Networks (LTNs) in school zones. That would be beneficial to protect kids and their abilities to ride to school.

You're right about about, and it gets more annoying when they are being run over by useless drivers who should never be behind a steering. If they can create Low Traffic Networks in school zones, that's definitely going to be very helpful. Our kids need all the protection they can get.
