Have you ever had a really bad crash or close call while cycling? I'm talking about those moments that made your heart stop like maybe a car that didn't see you, hitting gravel on a turn, or just losing control at the wrong time. Did it change how you ride afterwards? Some people get more...
Absolutely yes.. I mean your brain doesn't care how old you are when you hit the pavement. I've seen too many people get seriously hurt from what seemed like minor falls. Yeah helmets look dorky sometimes but being alive and functional is way more important than looking cool while riding.
If I'm bikepacking I'd camp most of the time. It's pretty awesome being on your own and waking up in cool places. Plus camping saves tons of money which is important on longer trips.
Honestly I think they work great on regular trails too.. Yeah they are heavier and slower on pavement but those fat tires give you crazy grip on rocky or muddy stuff. Plus they are just fun to ride like driving a monster truck. If you enjoy it who cares what it's supposed to be for..
They're actually really good..Not overhyped at all. I mean they help people who couldn't bike before like older people, folks with knee problems or anyone who doesn't want to be all sweaty when they get to work. Yeah some some bike snobs don't like them but if more people are riding that's awesome.
